A Handset for Calling and Texting, the Cherry Mobile 1800

Cherry Mobile is a locally branded handset provider that offers affordable phones - from basic call/text phones to smart phones with triple-SIM capability. Amazing isn't it? And I was truly awed to witness people flock in their booths whenever they do mall events. They're selling phones like pancakes (well more like burgers)!

I won this Cherry Mobile 1800 single SIM phone during the raffle when they introduced their newest endorser, Kim Chiu, a few weeks ago. I rarely win in raffle draws so I was really happy I won a phone because it gave me a chance to have a photo-opp with John Lloyd Cruz and Kim Chiu.

The Cherry Mobile 1800 single SIM handset provides basic phone necessities, calls and for texting. It also has a FM radio and flashlight feature. I didn't get the chance to use the phone because I gave the phone to my Mom since the phone I got for her for Mother's Day conked out. She didn't have any difficulty adjusting to the handset and has been using the phone quite a bit (I know coz I pay for her phone bills haha). My Mom's almost 75 years old so ease of use is important to her and she's been telling her friends that the phone is from John Lloyd. LOL.

So What is Android?

Android is really not a phone, it's a software that is used for mobile phones and includes an operating system, middleware and key applications. Google has provided the Android SDK so developers can build applications using APIs. The application is supposed to make it easier for us to browse the internet using our mobile phones.

HTC Touch Pro

The past few weeks have been really busy for all the YouGotTech contributors and I'm glad to share that we've been getting invitations to tech events! We are THE tech blog for non-techies! Woohoo!

One of the things I've been looking into lately are the hi-tech phones. I've been thinking about upgrading my phone with a unit that would make my mobile internet experience enjoyable. I don't bother using my phones to go online now coz the browsing experience is just really useless. 

And if ever I do decide (give it about a year more!) to change or upgrade my phone I'd want it to have the following useful features: (1) great internet browsing experience; (2) can take photos that would be usable for my blogs; (3) also videos; but I guess the most important feature for me would be #1 because without it I think I'd stick to what I have now till it conks out.

I had the chance to see the new HTC Touch Pro during its launch at the Renaissance Hotel and I thought it was an interesting phone coz of its snazzy features and here are just some that I managed to jot down during the event:

• the keypad is a QWERTY keyboard
• it's got a 2.8 inch touch screen
• the touch screen is great for web browsing
• 3.2 megapixel camera
• it's got a video out which you can connect to the TV or LCD projector (good for presentations!)
• internal 512 MB memory and you can put in a micro SD card up to 16GB

Come to think of it it's like a pocket laptop which can also use to do calls and SMS. The HTC Touch Pro will be available in the Philippines by mid-September 2008 and SRP is at PhP50,800 (uhoh!). For more information about the phone please visit HTC.
